Optimum Complete Protein Diet Reveiw
Optimum
Nutrition's Complete Protein Diet is a
revolutionary HIGH PROTEIN meal replacement containing 35 g of high quality
protein, a balanced vitamin and essential mineral profile, Omega-3, 6 and 9
fatty acids, and only 1 g of sugars!
The Science
Behind High Protein-Low Carbs The
Paleolithic Diet:
The Concept of a high protein, low carbohydrate diet is not new. In fact
most anthropological evidence suggests our "Stone Age" ancestors were
nomadic "hunter-gathers" that subsisted on a diet rich in meats, wild
green plants and shrub fruits. During this period there were fluctuations
in the food supply forcing our Paleolithic predecessors to become proficient at
maximizing food storage and utilization. Throughout evolution our diet has
undergone significant changes, but many experts feel that our bodies are still
best suited to handle a high protein low carbohydrate diet.
Several best
selling books including Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, Robert Crayhon's The
Carnitine Miracle and H. Leighton Steward Et Al. Sugar Busters
promote high protein/low carbohydrate diets, much like those believed to be
consumed by our ancestors during the Paleolithic Period. These authors
claim that high protein/low carbohydrate diets help stabilize the body's
hormonal responses, reduce an individual's risk of developing a host of chronic
illnesses and speed weight loss by forcing the body to use its fat stores for
energy. Complete Protein Diet is formulated to closely model the health
conducive nutritional profile of the Paleolithic Diet promoted in these best
sellers.
The
Carbohydrate Myth:
"Dieting" for most people has traditionally meant reduced caloric
intake. Most high carb/low fat diets do not allow for sufficient intake of
quality protein and essential fatty acids. When you consume carbohydrates,
your body releases insulin to help convert them and store them for energy.
The more carbohydrates you consume, the more insulin your body produces.
Eventually your body can produce more insulin than is necessary which increases
carbohydrate cravings. Many diet meal replacements shakes derive most of
their calories from refined carbohydrates and provide insufficient calories from
protein and dietary fat. This supplement provides over three times
the amount of quality protein found in the typical diet shake and includes
essential fatty acids. This not only helps control blood sugar levels and
insulin production, but it also promotes a feeling of satiety. Best of
all, it tastes delicious mixed with water.
The Hormone
Connection: Insulin vs. Glucagon:
High carbohydrate/low fat diets are the key to weight loss right? Not
necessarily. Nearly all the foods you consume are digested and eventually
end up in your bloodstream. In order to be used by the body, these
nutrients must be transported into the cells. Insulin is a hormone that
shuttles nutrients (carbohydrates, fats and amino acids) into the cells so that
they can be used by the body. Your body has a limited ability to store
carbohydrates. Therefore, when you consume excess carbohydrates
(especially refined sugars) the body is forced to convert and store them as fat.
Fortunately there are alternatives.
CPD helps maximize the effectiveness of one of your body's other hormones;
glucagon. Glucagon helps with fat utilization by promoting the production
of compounds called ketone bodies. Like glucose, ketones can help fuel
most of the activities that we perform throughout the day. But unlike
glucose, ketones are made from fat. What's the bottom line? Possibly
greater fat loss, the most desirable type of weight loss.
The Skinny on
Fat:
Gram for gram, fat provides more calories than protein or carbohydrates.
In addition to providing energy, fat also protects the internal organs, helps
insulate the body against cold, aids nerve transmissions, cushions the joints,
dissolves and transports fat soluble vitamins, and governs what enters and
leaves the cells. Certain types of fat (Omega 3 fatty acids and
Arachidonic acid) also appear to indirectly regulate a wide variety of body
processes by serving as precursors to a group of hormone-like compounds called
eicosanoids, or Prostaglandins. Eicosanoids are cell to cell mediators
that regulate a number of the body normal processes. CPD
contains expeller pressed Canola which is a naturally rich alpha linolenic acid
or Omega 3 fatty acids.
A Versatile
Complete Source of Nutrition:
Complete Protein Diet is the perfect high protein a low carbohydrate meal
replacement for use in conjunction with the high protein low carbohydrate diets
mentioned above. With a few simple modifications (i.e. blending with milk,
fruits, oatbran, etc.), it can be easily incorporated into
other popular diets like isocaloric, 40/30/30 or low fat diet plans.
